Arcimboldo in B&W

(I haven’t shot any Photosynthesis in over 6 months, and while there are a few things I’d still like to try out, I think I’m getting towards the end of that particular journey. I was reviewing my favourite photos from the series, and thought it would be interesting to revive this blog with some commentary about the ones that mean the most to me.)

This is also an image from the first ever shoot of Photosynthesis. Here I was using Scala 200, a B&W slide film with which I had a brief fling at the beginning of my film days. The contrast was much lower than Pan F, so the white shoot looked anything but white, which in turn led to the texture appearing on the background. Not what I was after, and I never tried again with Scala, or with lower contrast films in general. I do love this particular image though, which immediately reminded me of Arcimboldo’s portraits with fruits. In a sense, this is a dead-end technically, but still an inspiring shot in its imperfections.
